Waiting

We spend our time in waiting
'Til we reach a destination
Anticipation mounting
As we sit in expectation
Letting moments disappear
With the thoughts of those unborn
In hopes that meaning lies
In the turn of 'morrow's morn
Living not in present
But awaiting something new
Thinking of the future
As if we're passing through
One day, we turn and realize
That tomorrow never came
We did not meet the future
'Til it took a different name
But still we're looking forward
Thinking new days hold the key
As we go through life just breathing
Thought and moment disagree
When we reach the time we hoped for
Our longings have moved on
And we look once more ahead
As if present's come and gone
If we live not for each moment
We are truly not alive
As our lives are spent in waiting
For the future to arrive
Today is all we have
And life, we can't postpone
We must live within the present
As the rest remains unknown
