Delusions

I wish you'd stop pretending
That you had it figured out
You wear your proud bravado
Like you haven't got a doubt
But I can see your fear
And the worry in your eyes
Afraid of what would happen
If you took off your disguise
You live within a world
Fearing what is real
So you build a life of lies
Unsure of how to feel
Your visions of success
Have kept you unfulfilled
You think yourself protected
By the constant walls you build
With every brick you lay
You shut out more than pain
You build yourself a fortress
Seeking peace in vain
As you rid your world of trouble
Confined within your fort
You lose the world around you
Always falling short
If success is what you want
You can't find it on your own
Life cannot be full
When you do it all alone
If you live a life secure
And stay within the norm
Your spirit cannot thrive
When you force it to conform
There is something deep inside you
Yearning for a breath
Searching for new life
In a soul replete with death
I hope that hunger finds you
And you listen to its cry
Trusting in the spirit
That will give you wings to fly
