Acceptance

In the eyes of someone homeless
On a sidewalk late at night
Or the look a boxer has
When he knows hes lost the fight

When a little girl is mocked
Because her clothes are "wrong"
Or a vocalist is booed
When he messes up the song

In the look a woman has
When her clothes are just too tight
Or a skeptical believer
Who is searching for the light

When a tear falls down her face
As her boyfriend walks away
Or the bully of the class
Has nothing left to say

In the widow with the cats
Who lives at home alone
Or the workaholic man
With no family of his own

When the redhead kid with glasses
Looks into the mirror
Or the newly pregnant teen
Cannot hide her fear

There lies a sense of failure
And hidden sense of shame
In the scoreboard that is life
They think they lost the game

Sometimes it's a challenge
To be happy how we are
And accept our person wholly
Each bruise and every scar

I believe the hardest battle
Is the one we fight within
And often times we feel
Like its impossible to win

Something else is always better
Someone else is always first
When others get the best
You seem to get the worst

But life is full of struggles
With some downs along the way
Now and then we only hope
To make it through the day

Each part of who we are
Is important to our being
And sometimes it is hard
To realize what we're seeing

If we give ourselves a chance
We just might come to see
The person that we are
Is the greatest thing to be
