Land of Liberty

You think that I belong to you
Because I tread this soil
Assuming that my labor's yours
For here is where I toil
I walk this ground in certainty
You claim it as your own
Taking it as loyalty
Allegiance set in stone
You rule this land in freedom's name
But still, I won't be fooled
Despite the laws and creed you make
My heart cannot be ruled
You think that I should worship you
As if you are a god
Yet you, I cannot idolize
Although your ground I trod
My spirit is not bound to you
For I have deeper ties
To beauty of relationship
Not patriotic lies
Though parts of you are beautiful
Most of you is scarred
Yet you cannot admit this fact
Your pride you falsely guard
Tell me, do you see me cry
When you count my head?
I wish you knew me as a man
And called my name instead
To you, I'm just a number
A body on this earth
But speak to me, big brother
Do I have no worth?
You say you represent me
Yet do not see my face
Blinded by pursuit of wealth
Your honor, you debase
Woo me once again
By truth of imperfection
Wear justice in your heart
Not layers of protection
Until you live by word
Established years before
I will not sit in silence
But challenge you to more
